Kei is one of the main protagonists in the series. He is ranked 1st in the entire school which is why he has the habit of calling Hikari "Miss Rank 2". He is the son of the CEO of Takishima Corporation, making him next in line for the company. He is Hikari Hanazono's undefeated rival. Kei became Hikari's boyfriend and they engaged which makes Hikari his fiancé.
Kei has messily styled light brown hair that tends to hang in his face and calm brown eyes. As he is in the S.A program, he wears the standard S.A uniform: a white blazer with the S.A. logo near the pocket, pale blue shirt, black tie, and dark blue pants. During the warmer seasons, he, along with the other male S.A. members, wears a short sleeved white shirt with the S.A. logo on the sleeve and near the pocket, green striped tie, and green pants. Whenever he is challenged to a physical contest by Hikari he usually changes to a plain blue t-shirt and some white pants. Outside of his uniform, Kei tends to dress very modern and sporty. At formal events, he wears a navy blue suit with a gray waist vest and light purple tie. When challenged to a physical event, he tends to rip off his tie.
Kei loves Hikari and is willing to do anything for her. He always tries to please Hikari in everyway. At first, Hikari considered Kei as an arch rival/enemy,but it is seen in the later episodes that,kei's got feelings for hikari,which she fails to realize most times,making kei go 'evil' !he becomes dismantled and really angry at how dense hikari is. An example is in episode 3, in which Kei ate Hikari's riceballs even though it tasted bad, which Tadashi reacted that hunger is the best seasoning. In episode 22, Hikari kisses Kei on the forehead which shocked him but said that he accepts her feelings for him. They've been together since childhood. Hikari proposed their engagement. He proposed to Hikari in the final chapter with fireworks, though Hikari stated that if she didn't accept, he wouldn't win. Hikari and Kei are seen as a future couple. Embarrassed Kei
Akira is Kei's childhood friend, just like Hikari. They have a close but often provoking relationship. Typically, Akira takes Hikari away from him when he gets too close to her or he tries something weird on Hikari. In one of akira's flashback,akira states that kei had an aura around him that said "don't approach me".Because Akira gets sick and tired of having Kei always win, she sets out to finally make Kei lose like the time when she sets traps on the challenge, although Kei still came out on top!
Yahiro is another one of Kei's childhood friends. Akira,Yahiro, and Kei were all childhood friends when they were young because of their parents' jobs, although Yahiro wasn't as close to Kei as he was with Akira. Yahiro was like a prince, always bossing Akira around and making tea for him everyday. Soon, Yahiro became a bully to protect Akira because other kids would just hang out with her because she's rich and they get presents when they go to her house, so Yahiro would threaten those kids to stay away from Akira or his father would take away their parent's jobs. Yahiro then develops a crush on Akira,but,akira loves tadashi,making yahiro jealous.
Aoi admires Kei although he is 3 years younger than him. Kei and Aoi both have photographic memories and are "different" from others. At first, Aoi disliked his talent, but Kei told him they were "special" and since they are alike, Aoi looks up to him and call him "Master Kei." He and Hikari are also in the After-School Takishima Club.
Kei has a very bad relationship with his younger brother because Sui thinks he's a robot under human flesh. He feels inferior to Kei who is 'perfect'. But, thanks to Hikari, their relationship got better. sui then developes a 'brother complex'.
He is often dragged by his father along to work, usually foreign business meetings. It is revealed in the manga that he has a father complex and that he learned most of his skills from Satoru.
Midori is Kei and Sui's mother. Both of them inherited their looks from her, so they have a strong resemblance to her. She longs for the day when Kei will ask her to buy something for him. They aren't really that close since Midori is always working overseas.
Tomoe (巴衛) is a fox yokai, presently serving as first shinshi of Nanami Momozono in the manga seriesKamisama Hajimemashita.
In chapter one we find that Tomoe has been abandoned by his former kami, Mikage, and left to care for the land god's crumbling shrine alone for the last twenty years. When a powerless young girl named Nanami turns up on the shrine's doorstep bearing the wayward kami's mark, Tomoe is furious. He refuses to become her familiar and vanishes, deciding instead to give himself over to a life of sloth, drink and debauchery. However, in the world "over yonder" things rarely go to plan, and through desperation and cleverness, Nanami succeeds in tricking Tomoe and binding him to her service.
Tomoe's life before coming to Mikage shrine was violent and bloody. His early days as the companion of Akura-Ou, the demon king, were spent carving a path of death and destruction across the human and yokai world. Their rampage came to an abrupt end after Tomoe was attacked and critically wounded by the war god Ikusagami. However, some five hundred years later, the wild fox is still known and feared by every yokai he meets.
The specific events leading up to Mikage's binding of Tomoe remain unknown, but appear to be related to his equally-mysterious romantic history. Long ago, he fell deeply in love with a human girl and made a pact with a fallen god to live out his life as a human, dying when his beloved did. Something went wrong, as he did not become human, but was dying all the same when Mikage found him wandering in the woods. Thanks to Mikage erasing his memories, Tomoe himself remembers nothing of this area of his life.
Tomoe bears many of the traits one might expect from a fox yokai; he is handsome, cunning, sly and possessed of a certain allure that those he meets often find difficult to resist. He does not appear to be wholly unaware of his attractiveness, and is quite pragmatic about employing both his looks and his charms when it suits him.
As a wild fox he displayed a certain flamboyant streak, wearing his hair long and possessing a collection of elaborately colored and embroidered robes and kimonos. Here we see a stark contrast between the past and present Tomoe, as he now dresses much more somberly in shades of white, grey, dark blue and black, though he still will wear his flamboyant kimonos sometimes. In the past, he was mosly seen wearing a kimono with fire patterns as well as a haori.
One thing you might not expect is Tomoe's unusually strong sense of loyalty and honor. It was largely this that bound him to Akura-Ou, that kept him standing watch over Mikage's crumbling shrine for twenty lonely years, and that causes him to go above and beyond the call of duty as Nanami's familiar, even before he realizes his feelings for her.
His familiar binding seems to have tempered both his yokai powers and some of his more extreme tendencies. As a wild fox he exhibited a sort of grey morality in that he did not mind killing, so long as those he preyed on would or could fight back. He did on a few occasions object to the wholesale slaughter of innocents, such as children like Mizutama, but this is a very small credit to his name, as regardless of his objections he did nothing to stop it. Since becoming a familiar, his outlook has become something of a paradox; on one hand he still feels little patience for the weakness and frailty of creatures less powerful than himself, while at the same time he has grown gentler and more thoughtful, placing greater value on all forms of life and humanity in particular. Though he still remains some what blunt and ignorant as to situations that Nanami finds herself in with him.
His understanding of human emotions appears limited, as his remembered life has been confined exclusively to the land god's shrine. In the beginning he finds the concept of love human-centric and foolish, and it is a long time before he begins to understand the way his words and actions affect those around him. He is however able to learn and change, and has displayed attempts to modify his behavior in an endearing, almost childish manner.
Tomoe remains short-tempered, proud, and fiercely protective of those he cares about. No obstacle has proven too great to keep him from Nanami's side; he has fought gods and literally gone to hell and back for her sake.
It's not exaggerating to say that Tomoe is one of the most powerful yokai (and a god's familiar at the same time) among all. Tomoe's abilities are pretty vast, a fact which is reflected by the terrified respect he receive s from other yokai and by the envy ill-meaning gods have for Nanami, Tomoe's current master. As a fox yokai, he is capable to control fox fire on his own will, which is even being said that able to make a sea of fire. He can also transform other creatures, in addition to himself, through the use of enchanted leaves. However, as a familiar his Yokai powers seem to be weakened due to his bond to the shrine.
In the past, the demon king Akura-Ou and he were close acquaintances; and it was said that Tomoe, the fox yokai was the only person Akura-Ou acknowledged as his comrade, in other words, equal to him in terms of power.
In the past, it is shown in chapter 92 that he uses swords as part of his fighting. It also was shown that he uses fox fire to turn yokai and humans into dust. He also uses enchanted leaves to transform into a child inchapter 84. It is not shown that he uses his claws all that much, but it was shown that he would use his claws, if necessary. In most instances though, he prefers using his sword over getting his hands dirty.
Another thing that Tomoe is very good at is his cooking skills, as mentioned by Nanami numerous times. However, Tomoe seems to find a way to use cooking as another weapon, as shown when he threatens to make Kurama and Mizuki into something to eat.
*Foxfire: Tomoe mainly uses his foxfire to fight enemies. However, there are some instances when he has used this ability for other reasons, such as when he illuminated the pathway that led to the Mikage Shrine for the festival that was organized by Nanami.
Transformation: Tomoe can change his appearance via the use of his enchanted leaves. An example of his transformation abilities is seen when he disguised himself as Nanami, and went to school in her place when she couldn't go due to a cold.
Hide demonic appearance: Tomoe can hide his demonic appearance without releasing his powers. Tomoe can also make other demons hide their appearance; he did this with Numano Himemiko, at the request of Nanami, so that she could once again meet the boy that she had fallen in love with.
Restoration: Tomoe's powers are used to maintain the beautiful appearance of the Mikage Shrine. Without his powers, the shrine would return to a run-down state (like it did when his body reverted back into that of a child after the god of wealth'slucky mallet was used on him by Princess Narukami).
Appearance
Tomoe is a fox demon with a beautiful youthful appearance which results in Nanami's classmates to swoon over him, much in the similar fashion as Kurama, making him very popular in school, though he seems somewhat unfazed to the attention, or simply doesn't realize it. His zoomorphic characteristics are displayed in his fox ears and tail. His hair is silver white, and his cat like eyes are violet (although sometimes you can see the color gold). He wears a prominently white yukata most of the time but also wears a school uniform when going to school or disguising himself as a human. In the manga her wears much more luxurious kimonos than those in the anime.
Tomoe had long silvery-white hair and violet cat-like eyes. His skin was pale and he wore fancy kimonos. He is mostly seen wearing a kimono with fire patterns at the ends, in both anime and manga.
Present
Tomoe retains his silvery white hair, though cut much shorter. However, it grows back to its previous length every time his familiar contract with Nanami is broken. He still has his cat-like eyes and still wears fancy kimonos but sometimes switches them for plainer ones.
In the past, before his meeting with the previous Land God, Mikage, Tomoe and Akura-Ou massacred thousands of demons and humans only for the fun of it. However, due to this, he was targeted by the gods and was tracked down by Ikusagami. Tomoe was confident but, in the end, was fatally hurt. He ran away but due to his wounds was chased by humans. In desperation, jumped into the river and changed himself into a child, where Nanami found him whilst traveling in the past. Tomoe fell in love with Nanami after she'd saved him, but in an attempt to hide her traveling to the past, Tomoe only knows her as Yukiji, another girl who hated yokai. He made a contract with a fallen god, Kuromaro, to turn him into human so he could live as human with that girl to his death. The fallen god deceived him, he didn't turn into human and worst, the fallen god had marked him as his (in other words, tried to take his soul). Yet before his death coming, he met Mikage. Mikage purified him and made him forget about Yukiji, so that as long as Tomoe cannot recall that girl, his life will be saved.
Akura-Ou was Tomoe's past comrade. However, because Tomoe admitted he was falling in love with a human girl and was going to become a human (no longer being a yokai), Akura-Ou got mad and then they split. 500 years later, Akura-Ou will tell Yatori, an ex-follower, that the reason why they split was because "That stinking fox went insane. He actually became enchanted with a human girl and saying he would no longer be a yokai and other nonsense" They referred to each other as "Brother." In the past, it was shown that Tomoe got easily mad at Akura-ou for stealing things that belonged to him (Like his clothes). When Tomoe begins to understand that he was falling in love, he meet back up with Akura-ou who comes to the hut he was staying with Yukiji, and confesses his feelings and his desire to become a human to stay by her side, resulting in Akura-ou's outrage, threatening him that if he became one then he would kill him off fast. Tomoe replies that he knows that because he was that type of person and that it couldn't be help if that happened, but hugs him and tells to to take care of himself and not to be too reckless. Akura-ou leaves and feels abandoned but just doesn't realize the extent of his loneliness.
Mikage is Tomoe's previous master and the God who saved him from dying. Tomoe served him for 500 years and suddenly, Mikage went away and never came back (Once Mikage comes back to the shrine inchapter 79, he explains that for all the time he was gone, he was looking for a cure that could save Tomoe from the curse marks, but stated "That there are none to be found"). After Mikage erased Tomoe's memories of Yukiji, he took him under his "wing" and taught him the values of human life (since he lost his memory of ever being kind to a human, he turned back to the way he was before he fell in love with a human, which at that time was Yukiji)
Mizuki is Tomoe's fellow familiar of Land Shrine, his apprentice to be more precise. They often get into ridiculous mocking fights, yet deep inside they do care for each other in some way. In the beginning Mizuki is shown trying to get Nanami to hate Tomoe by telling her that "he was with the swamp women and that he really was pleased right now", although he was with the fake Nanami, that way Nanami would think of him as a better familiar than Tomoe. But as the story goes on, Mizuki eventually gives up on the idea, realizing that no matter what happens, Nanami will always love Tomoe.
Kurama is a Tengu (Crow Goblin) from Kurama Mountain. They developed a lingering hatred for each other, mostly due to Tomoe's jealousy towards Kurama's ability to understand Nanami and her human emotions. Though in the end, they become friends, in a way. He is mostly seen giving Tomoe advice on Nanami's human feelings. In the Kurama Mountain arc, at the end Kurama gave Tomoe the advice to tell Nanami how he felt about her, saying that "a man's life is too short" and that he would never get any other chances. (Tomoe eventually tells Nanami "I like you too." but she was drunk when he told her that and thus she didn't pick up the words.)
Narukami is the lightning god. After cursing Mikage and saying, "Stealing Tomoe away from me", it can be supposed that she had taken a liking to Tomoe. However, Tomoe makes it very obvious that he dislikes her.
Nanami is Tomoe's master (the current God of Mikage Shrine). At first they didn't seem to have a good relationship, but as the story flows, Tomoe begins to open up to Nanami and vice-versa. He turned Nanami down when she confessed to him, yet at the further chapters, he shows clues that he has developed 'romantic' feelings toward his God. In more recent volumes he has admitted to himself that he likes Nanami while implying it to be romantic way and often wondered what attracted him to her. Although Tomoe was/is the second strongest Yokai in the demon world, he fears Nanami's anger, which mainly happens when he flirts with other girls, due to jealousy. And at some point when Nanami kicked both Tomoe and Mizuki (though he had nothing to do with it) to get some snacks, Tomoe happily stated that she was jealous, and that a "women's jealousy is a scary thing"
While traveling back to the past, Nanami saved Tomoe's injured past self from the villagers. Later in chapter 86 she fed him peach pills to heal his wounds and took care of him at night. But she hid from him her name and requested Futa to say it was Yukiji who saved him. Tomoe started to think of Nanami as Yukiji and pursued her. He thought about hurting/stopping her as Yukiji is getting married and going to belong to some other man. But Nanami's weak state left him shocked and he left her alone for the time being.
In chapter 91 Nanami decides to ride the palanquin instead of Yukiji and becomes the target of Akura-Ou. Tomoe initially thought about killing Nanami again as he blamed his unusual feelings on her but later saved her from Kirakaburi and took her with him. At first he was going to assault her, but he changed his mind when Nanami cried and begged him not to look at her. Tomoe hugged her instead and said he feels troubled when he sees her cry. Tomoe then decides to keep Nanami and forces her to stay with him. Nanami yells that she hated him for saying such things, surprising Tomoe. He tries to gather the willpower to kill her but fails, stung deeply by her words. He saves her from bandits and then desperately asks her to take back her words.
He continues to call her Yukiji, making Nanami believe that it probably wasn't her Tomoe fell in love with. Nanami still refusing to be his, Tomoe takes her to a sakura garden, making Nanami smile. Tomoe tells her to always smile like that and recalls when he first met her in the rundown hut one rainy day and bared her teeth at him, the time she had rescued him at the riverside and came at night to care for him. Finally, he admits he had fallen for her. Nanami cries with happiness knowing that Tomoe had fallen in love with her and not Yukiji and tells her that she is already his but will only be his wife in the future. Suddenly Nanami falls to the ground, her time for traveling in the past running out.
In recent chapters, Tomoe has realized that the woman he fell in love in the past was never Yukiji, but really Nanami, who is actually the descended of Yukiji and her child. The two are now in a relationship, and are keeping their promises of the past, and now seem to be engaged. Now, it shows Nanami what's to try harder in her school because she does not want to hold Tomoe back. In Ch. 102 the two share a scene under a umbrella, which in Japan is the sigh of Ai Ai Gasa, "Love-Love Umbrella". In Ch. 103, it show that Tomoe does not want to hold back any more and wants to continue where they left off 500 years ago, (Or he was just really drunk and had no clue on what he was doing), which somewhat shock and scaried Nanami, but was saved by a protective Mizuki and an angry Mikage.
Yukiji was Tomoe's past love. He would do anything for her; even go as far as massacring many in order to take the Dragon King's right eye (which was said will bring immortal life and great power) to save Yukiji who was dying due to her weak body and perhaps disease. He was even seen shedding tears over her death as he told Mikage about how much he still loved her and wished to be with her.
In Chapter 80, Tomoe's curse is awakened when he remembers his past love (and the only way he could remember this was if he fell in love with a human again, such as Nanami). In an attempt to save him, Nanami travels back into the past to find the fallen god with whom Tomoe made the contract, in hopes of finding the "Key" to breaking his curse. While in the past, Nanami discovers that Yukiji is merciless towards yokai and hates them. It turns out that Nanami is the person Tomoe fell for. However, trying not to interfere with Yukiji and Tomoe's past affair, she only visits him at night. When Tomoe asked Futa about the woman taking care of him, Futa lied for Nanami saying that the woman's name was "Yukiji." Tomoe starts to pursue the woman called Yukiji believing Yukiji is the one who saved him.
In chapter 91 Nanami replaced Yukiji in the palanquin and became a decoy in order to ensure Yukiji's safety and happiness. Because of that, Tomoe ended up taking Nanami away in chapter 92, as he remembers her as Yukiji. After Tomoe takes Nanami back to the Lord's house, Yukiji sees their interaction and promise between the two, wondering who Nanami really was. After 8 years, Tomoe has kept his distance as he promised "Yukiji" and the real Yukiji is able to live a happy life with her husband along with her unborn baby. However, Akura-ou ruins it by destroying the mansion and killing her husband, but Tomoe arrives just in time to save and take Yukiji away, whom he still believes is the same girl, not realizing that Nanami and Yukiji are two different people. Yukiji though desperation for her child's safely stays with Tomoe, however will not allow him to be close to her, for her hate for demons still lingers. She keeps her eyes closed and doesn't look at him, fooling him into thinking that there was something wrong with her eyes. She only opens them when he his not around.
In recent chapters, Tomoe has realized that the woman he fell in love in the past was never Yukiji, but really Nanami and now seems shows his feelings for her a little more now.
Kaname Kuran (玖蘭 枢 Kuran Kaname) is a Purebloodvampire and Head of the Kuran family, one of the seven remaining Pureblood families. He is also one of the progenitors of the Vampires and the first Kuran, making his estimated age over 10,000 years old. Kaname is Yuki's fiancé and is the father of her daughter.
Kaname has red-brown eyes. He has brown hair that is grown up to his collar with his bangs falling into his face. His face expressions are ususally calm and tranquil, though with Yuki, he is usually seen with a small smille. Kaname is one of the tallest vampires in the Night Class, and has a lean-build. As Head of the Kuran family, he also dresses formally most of the time. Kaname wears the standard Night Class uniform; a white blazer, black shirt, red tie, white pants, and black shoes. He also wears a tie pin over his tie. Almost all the girls in the Day Class (including a few Night Class vampires) find him attractive.
Kaname is generally a calm, elegant, stoic and authoritative individual. However, he becomes a completely different person with Yuki; to her, Kaname is very gentle and warm.
This disposition bothers the Night Class vampires, who initially do not understand his favoritism towards her. Yuki herself feels confused about how Kaname lovingly cares for her. Kaname Kuran and Zero Kiryu meet face to faceKaname expresses occasional jealousy towards Zero Kiryu because of Yuki's connection to him, and is not afraid to show this to Yuki.
He is very strict and often imposes discipline in a fierce way as the Dorm President, yet he is indulgent and kinder towards Yuki. Kaname has acknowledged to Rido that he has a contradictory nature, which leads him to both desiring to lock Yuki up and keep her to himself, but alternatively to watch her protectively while encouraging her to be herself. Kaname never hides the fact that he is not interested in anything else but Yuki's welfare. Every action he makes is towards one goal, and that is Yuki's safety; his greatest fear is losing her.
Young Yuki and Kaname
He is very determined to have Yuki live for all of eternity by his side and not only deeply fears losing her because of the ten years she spent as a human, but because of the mysterious loss in his past. His solitary nature makes him rather secretive. Kaname has the Pureblood power of controlling vampires, but he chooses not to exercise this power, thus earning the respect of the Noble vampires, as mentioned by Takuma Ichijo and Akatsuki Kain. Sometimes when he is with other vampires he acts particularly cold and domineering, but he usually seems to treat them with detached politeness
Kaname Kuran is the ancestor of the Kuran clan, one of the founders of the vampire race. He lived alongside another mysterious ancestor known as The Hooded Woman. This woman tossed her heart into the blazing furnace to create weapons forged to kill vampires. Artemis, the Bloody Rose and all the other weapons in the Hunter's Association were all born from her sacrifice. Soon after doing so, her body began to crack and shattered into a million pieces. After having witness this, Kaname put himself into an eternal slumber as he had no more reason to live for until a few thousand years later, where he will be awakened to become the new parent. However, he was reawakened by Rido Kuran, his descendant who sacrificed the life of an innocent baby who was Yuki's actual brother to awaken him.
Due to his weakened state after reviving, Kaname transformed his body into that of a baby and suppressed his memories, entrusting his life in the hands of Haruka and Juri, who raised Kaname in place of the son that Rido had taken and killed. As children, Kaname and Yuki shared a very close relationship even to the point of promising they will marry and live a life like their parents. As a child, Kaname was not especially outgoing around children his own age. He first met Hanabusa, Akatsuki, and Ruka as children, but they did not form bonds until several years later after the deaths of Haruka and Juri. Kaname previously had no reason to live except to become the next parent as he originally planned and because of Yuki. Kaname was willing to forgo his original plans in order to live with her for all eternity. Kaname severely wounds Rido by tearing him apart into pieces which required ten years for Rido's body to regenerate. During the attack on the Kurans, he found himself unable to kill Rido, as he was technically his master who had awakened him from his slumber.
After temporarily dispatching Rido, Kaname took the now-human Yuki to Kaien Cross's house. Kaname himself was taken in by Takuma's grandfather, a man whom he distrusted. During her childhood, Kaname frequently visited Yuki and remained a steady presence in her life. After Kaien Cross built the Academy, he agreed to let Kaname decide everything that involved the school's vampires so that he could stay near Yuki and protect her from afar.
Like all Pureblood vampires, Kaname has immortality and the ability to heal from anything excluding anti-vampire weapon wounds to the heart or head. Like all vampires, he can absorb the powers from vampires whose blood he drinks. Kaname's powers have been listed as immeasurable.[1] However, in the manga, he has stated that when his mind wanders he "loses control," as seen when he accidentally burns a hole in the wall (in the manga) and a tree (in the anime), both barely missing Takuma, and also shatters a window. Like all vampires, he also has enchanced strength and super speed. Kaname has demonstrated the following abilities:
Creation of a familiar in any form he chooses, such as a bat able to convey messages[3] and a wolf [4]from which he can receive information instantly, and used to watch over Yuki when she left the Kuran Mansion. His familiar is also strong enough to carry another person[5] and wields his telekinetic powers.[6]
Yuki Kaname and Yuki and Kaname have a complicated past that goes back to when they were children. Kaname loves Yuki very much, though he oftens treats her like a child and is very overprotective of her. When she was reawakened as a vampire, she refuses to hunt for a prey and stubbornly rejects her vampire self for the past six months of living together. Her actions leaves Kaname worried and wonder alot. He has also tried to make her call him just Kaname instead of Onii-sama or Kaname-Senpai. Kaname takes a gamble and decides to reveal the truth of her real brother and also about his history. After learning the truth, Yuki begins to see Kaname as someone more than just a brother and admired savior, but as her fiancé. Yuki wishes to start over with Kaname after she knows his secret and Kaname agrees.
Kaname respects Yuki's decisions and puts her feelings as his top priority even before his own. She was his only exception to everything. However, Kaname knows that half of her heart is still with Zero, but despite this, she still chose to be with him which is clear to him that she truly loves him with her heart. Kaname reminds her that, because of her feelings for Zero, she might have to suffer forever. Kaname originally did not mind waiting until her heart changes for him but it grew on him to think if the path of a vampire was right for her. During this time, Kaname works ridiculously hard to establish laws to maintain peace between the vampires and the hunters, in order to give Yuki the freedom to roam freely around in the outside world without putting her life in any danger. However with the reappearance of Zero, Yuki's heart wavered. Kaname decides to take a step back and puts them through a test. Kaname told her to wait at the Kuran mansion for him until he returns to start anew together. However, Yuki defies him and it resulted in him to begin executing the original plan of the Ancestress to eliminate all Purebloods. He began doing the things that will make Yuki hate and doubt him even though he cherishes and loves her more than anything in the world. After Yuki has unfolded the truth behind the series of events and has successfully caught Kaname and confronts him once again, the two of them make up after he assures that he will not leave her, and they both make love in 89th Night.At the end of the manga, Kaname's words greatly hinted that he never wanted her to revert back to a vampire. He just wanted to watch over her until the time came for him to depart from her. However, she who has lived as a human has became a radiant existence to him that gave him hope to keep living this timeless eternity with her.
Due to the fact that he never allowed her to go visit her friends, Zero or have any form of communication with the outside world as well as always drinking large amounts of blood from her, many of the fans consider their relationship to not be one of romance but one of abuse. Kaname even states that she's never smiled from her heart when she was with him, implying that she wasn't truly happy with him but that because she always felt like she should repay him for saving her life as well as always feeling inferior to him shows that although she loved him, she never felt like they were equals.
Kaname tears out his heart to the furnace, for the vampire hunter weapons to continue to be strong again. Yuki goes to him asking him in tear why he had to do that, and that she didn't want to be in a world where she could no longer hear his voice. In her moment of grieve as Kaname dies, she says that she wished she was never born, so that the Kaname of today wouldn't have to go through this. He tells her that he doesn't regret any of the mistakes that he has made, and that she musn't say that, since it makes it sound like he didn't recieve any happiness. He says "It's not that I didn't recieve any happiness, because there's a light at the end of the journey." Before he "dies" he says he also has to atone for the mistakes that he has commited by his own choice alone.
Kaname tells both Yuki and Zero that he wants them to be together saying "I've always been squinting my eyes at the radience... That's why I've come to understand... You two should be together... I want you two to be together" as Zero and Yuki are shocked by his statement and he finally falls into a deep sleep, with Yuki cries. Yuki is in shock after his "death" and shows no emotion when Zero reveals his feelings for her. He tells her that she can take her time, years or even decades, but that she must say her feelings for him eventually when she has overcome her grieve and guilt over the actions that Kaname decided to undertake.
A thousand years later, Yuki reveals that she had a life full of happiness with Zero and her children (fullfilling Kaname's wishes at the time of his death). Yuki, in the last pages of the manga, reveals that although they found a method to turn a vampire into a human due to his research, he wouldn't be able to wake up from his eternal sleep nor endure the effect of the "treatment". Yuki, instead, decides to give her life to Kaname to turn him into a human.
In the final chapter, it was revealed that Yuki had a daughter with him (whom looks like Yuki and resembles Kaname), whom gives him a message with her half-brother (son of Zero and Yuki) from Yuki (their mother) to Kaname that said, "I want to give to you, whom I love, the world that I saw when I was a human". As Yuki gives her life to turn Kaname human, she reflects "The long and endless journey... You, who existed with that thirst, may your thirst be quenched." Kaname finally says after the message and looking into the light and touching a butterfly (a memento of Yuki), "What a beautiful light..."
The Hooded Woman, also known as the Ancestress, was a progenitor from Kaname's ancient past and was the leader of a Hooded Ancestressresistance. She was also the very first significant person in Kaname's life who gave him an identity and has ever felt attachment towards. It was mentioned in Kaname's point of view - through Yuki- that she was a very important person to him and that he regrets losing her, despite mentioning that he never intended to have feelings or be involved with anyone. The two shared a really unique and special relationship. In most of Kaname's past, she was his reason to keep on living after being driven out of the village he lived in as the villagers saw him as a monster after realizing that despite many generations and decades has passed, he never aged.
The Hooded Woman was the one who gave him a name (with the same spelling of her hometown) and a purpose- to eradicate all Purebloods who harbours the intent of turning humans into submissive slaves. She shared her past and ideals with Kaname, telling him that she really liked humans. It was also shown in his memories that he was a scientist for a period of time as he researched for a way to kill Purebloods. In those memories, it was revealed that she had some kind of authority over Kaname, as he allowed her to push him around to get jobs done. She became the first parent of the anti-vampire weapons after she threw her heart into the furnace. Her death devastated Kaname silently, as he intended to be the sacrifice. In her name, Kaname fought the Purebloods for decades, slowly losing his will to live and emotions as he felt that the weapons only desired to kill more vampires. When the battles ceased, he decided to enter a slumber that he had no intention of ever awakening from.
Kaname and Zero have disliked each other since their first meeting. One could say that they are arch nemesis of one another due to different perspectives and methods. They both show very strong feelings towards Yuki and envies each other from time to time. Due to this, they also share a limited amount of tolerance to one another when Yuki's safety is concerned. From the beginning, Kaname planned on Zero being one of the cursed twins and devouring his brother, Ichiru, so he could become a vampire killing machine. In 93rd Night, he entrusted Yuki in Zero's hands and said that he wants Yuki and Zero to be together.
Hanabusa is Kaname's loyal friend and right-hand man. Their relationship is quite comedic and purely adoration in Aido's perspective. However, this relationship was shattered when Kaname murdered Hanabusa's father Nagamichi Aido in front of him. After this act, Hanabusa remained at his sister Yuki's side as her guard and tutor, eventually renouncing Kaname as his leader when he sent Ruka and Akatsuki to suppress the Day Class. Hanabusa stated that he wouldn't let the Pureblood do as he wish and take advantage of Yuki's kind-hearted nature.However, later in the manga, it shows that Kaname never killed his father and he only went into a slumber.Hanabusa reconnected with his father and came back to Kaname's side after he understood Kaname's true intentions.
Kaname lived with Takuma after his "parents" death and since then they have become great friends. It would seem that Kaname trusts Takuma to a certain extent and seems not to worry about him, despite Takuma's affiliation with Sara. After Kaname was entrapped with ice, Takuma watches over his tomb for a thousand years.
Ruka both loves and admires Kaname however, he does not return her affections. Despite this, Kaname trusts and respects her. Ruka and Akatsuki are the two Night Class vampires who Kaname chose to keep at his side and help with his plans after the death of Nagamichi Aido. It is also implied that Kaname and Akatsuki had a deal that when the time comes, Kaname would have Ruka leave his side, by force if necessary.
